Chaired by Jill and Paul Morrone, and presented by US Wealth Management, you are invited to join us for the 10th annual CTBTA Golf Tournament at the beautiful New Haven Country Club on Monday, September 26th.
Our late mother, Kathy Berman (affectionately known as KB), was diagnosed with a glioblastoma in July of 2008 and passed away on September 22, 2009 after a courageous 14 month battle. Much like many who fall victim to terminal illnesses, she suffered a quick decline and required 24-hour care during the final stages of her life, a responsibility taken on by us as her children, Jill, Amy and Brian.
Known for her outgoing nature, she was never afraid to be the center of attention and had the type of presence that could light up a room. She was also a tennis enthusiast, gourmet cook and loved spending time with her family and friends. Although she was taken from us at the all-too-young age of 58, we were blessed to have had her in our lives as a mother, mentor and friend. Family and friends will always be grateful for the role she played in their lives and, Kathleen Berman, the incredible KB, will always be remembered for her life of the party personality and big heart.
Our mom was devoted and beloved, and we miss her every day. She was a registered nurse for more than 30 years, who found her calling in providing home care to hospice patients. Her insight, empathy and sense of humor brought special comfort to the patients and families she supported during the most difficult of times. Given her dedication and selflessness in caring for others, it was only fitting that we continued her legacy by working with the CTBTA to host this golf tournament in her memory.
We know that there are countless stories similar to ours, which makes this cause so important. We immediately felt a strong connection with the CTBTA and were welcomed into a small and intimate community that has often been referred to as “the best club you never wanted to be a part of.” What makes this organization so special is that they do more than raise awareness and fund research. Their drive to make a real difference in the lives of patients, families and caregivers immediately resonated with our family who did not have such resources when our mother was undergoing treatment. In 2009, we were three young children coping with the sickness and loss of our mother. The community the CTBTA has created helps to ensure that no family like ours will ever have to go through this very dark time alone again.
We have always wanted to commemorate our mother’s life and the courageous battle she fought. By partnering with the CTBTA in hosting this golf tournament, we have now found a way to share her story, honor her memory and help create a legacy that we hope can better the lives of families like ours all over the state. We welcome anyone that would like to be a part of this exciting event to join us on September 26th to pay tribute to our mother in a way that would make her proud. Together, we are committed to raising funds to advance tumor awareness, brain tumor research and quality of care. Your support of events such as this will enable us to realize this goal and make Connecticut a center of excellence for brain tumor care.
